Progress Report: MATCHED

I started Matched about two months ago, and as of right now I just hit page 100.
I think I'm going to have to put this one back on my shelf and come back to it after a little while.
It's a bummer that I can't seem to concentrate on it, but in all honesty it hasn't really been holding my interest, and I've had to read about 10 or so pages at a time, every once in awhile. I don't want to get really specific, just because this isn't technically a review and I don't want to say anything "official" sounding without having finished the book first.

I will try and get back to it in the summer time, after I've read through the books I have to review and all the upcoming sequels that are about to be released!

What did you guys think of Matched? Yay or nay?
And has there ever been a book you've had to put down and revist later?

11 shout-outs!:

Yeah...I just couldn't get into this one. I found it...kinda boring. :/ While I used to really love dystopian books, I'm noticing that I tend to be liking them less and less these days. I think the issue is that I love the high-action ones like THE HUNGER GAMES and THE MAZE RUNNER, but the ones coming out right now are all realistic, psychological dramas and that's just not my thing.

I liked Matched, but I didn't think it was anything super special like most people seem to. I liked Cassia and I liked the idea of the story, I just found the slow pace really hard to deal with. I expected it to be more action packed and, well, it obviously wasn't.

There have been a few books that I just set down and I've never come back to them... I think there are too many awesome books out there to focus on the ones that don't really do it for you.

I haven't read this novel (nonetheless know the synopsis) but I think I might do what you are doing, putting the book back. Because I have been on this one novel for like 3 months now and never have the time to get to it because I forget since I can't carry it around because of the size.

I finished the book but it wasn't as fabulous as I had expected it to be.

I'm sorry you're not really getting into this one :\ I had a hard time at the beginning, but I was hooked by the end. Hopefully you'll like it better the second time around.

I hope you will eventually come back to Matched. I liked it but have read other similar books that I thought were better. It is a slow pace partly because of world building. I didn't care for the romance aspect as much as I liked reading about the world Cassia lives in so that could be why I didn't find it too slow. It is hard to read and concentrate at times when you've got the pressure of deadlines. I've had that happen to me before.

One book I put aside for years and came back to later (and loved): Jane Eyre! I started itwhen I was twelve and was pulled in by the first chapter but then my interest fell off. I think as a 7th grader I wouldn't have appreciated Jane's time at Thornfield the way I did in my late teens/early twenties.

Matched is sitting on my shelves, but I haven't had a chance to get to it yet. I (like you) will probably try to read it this summer. I'm trying to read all of the books I have before buying more :)

I read Matched in one sitting! I think what mostly got me was the plot. I was intrigued with the whole society. Sorry you can't get into it.

I've definitely had books I've had to come back to in the right mood.

I read Matched a little bit ago and enjoyed it for what it was...acknowledging that there were some things I wanted it to be that it just wasn't going to be (more exciting/adventurous, etc). It's a slower paced dystopian (at least by modern standards...compared with earlier dystopia, it's somewhat on-par) and tries to balance the dystopia with the teen romance in a natural way that left each side a little strained...but still enjoyable.

I'm definitely still intrigued in the world she's created and learning more about the Society and following the adventures of the characters, but I need to be sure to read it expecting a slower paced, thoughtful book rather more akin to Orwell other other older dystopia rather than a fast paced Hunger Games or Maze Runner.

Oh, I hope you finish! Matched may not be the absolute best book I read this year, but I definitely enjoyed it. Plus with all of the hype about Crossed, I knew I had to at least read book 1!

OMG I loved it. Try again. But only if you really dig dystopians.
